Whilst there are some pretty smart people... nay smart asses ( rather than smart donkeys ) who tom tom our INDIAN past and current achievements in science... and medicine... and technology... and... and... and...
And... especially so in mathematics...
Let us all be aptly pragmatic. And here, data/ metrics serves us better rather than gloating over distant past.
And/ Or, painting a pretty rosy picture on the canvas of the future.
Notwithstanding the pretty serious and grim realities abounding !!

1) How does Iran compare to India ?

3) How are Japan, South Korea, Romania, Taiwan, Ukraine, Vietnam faring over all these years ? How are we placed therein ?? Overall ??
4) Why we jumped onto the bandwagon only in circa 1989 ? Sleeping till then ?
5) When do we Indians get the #1 or #2 rankings/ prize ?
Do we... at all ?? in the ONCOMING 5-10 years ??
6) How's is CHN managing SO pretty well. Compared to all others. This speaks of the inherent potentialities in them.
Be your own judge. Especially if you have any science or technology background.
In India, let's NOT talk of the NOBEL prizes as such. IMO #1 ranking for a few years at stretch should suffice, for the moment.
Can provide some much needed impetus to build some lasting momentum.
